The primary goal of ESTEEM (European Safety Training and Evaluation Supporting European Mobility) supported by European Commission is to maximise the quality and efficacy of safety training programmes provided in the EU.
ESTEEM aims to:
- Enhance access to training and qualifications for low-skilled and migrant workers in the construction industry
- Promote Social Inclusion including stakeholders’ needs from the very beginning
- Aid the mobility of workers within the EU by developing a Safety Training Certificate System -
Introduction
In this unit the difference between technical and non-technical skills will be presented and a reflection about near misses at work will be stimulated
Objective
The goals of this unit are:
- To describe ESTEEM project
- To learn about the differences between technical and non-technical skills and their role for safety performance at work
- To Enhance sensibility of workers relatively to risk perception
Non Technical Skills discussed in class
Situational awareness and Communication
Contents
In this unit you will find the material presented during class training
Is suggested to read the slides before completing the activity
Expected learning
At the end of this unit you will be able to know which technical and non-technical skills are useful for your work and how these can help you to prevent work accidents
Expected duration for activities compilation: 20’
- To describe ESTEEM project
-
Introduction
In this unit a detailed description of mechanical, electrical, chemical and physical risks will be presented
Objective
The goals of this unit are:
- To provide basic information and to describe situations in which these typologies of risk can take place
- To enhance awareness about correct behaviours to work safely
Non Technical Skills discussed in class
Situational awareness, Communication and Decision making
Contents
In this unit you will find the material presented during class training and some useful Learning Games to reflect about correct behaviours to adopt in order to work safely
Is suggested to read the slides before completing the activities and the games
Non Technical Skills discussed in games
Situational awareness and Decision making
Expected learning
At the end of this unit you will be able to recognise mechanical, electrical, chemical, physical risks in construction sites and the correct behaviours to adopt.
Expected duration for games compilation: 80’

Introduction
In this unit a detailed description about risks associated with manual handling of loads and about risk of interference and of sub-contracting will be presented.
A particular attention will be dedicated to the use of signposting as a communicative tool and to the use of protective equipment for individuals and groups. Objective
The goals of this unit are:
- To provide basic information and to describe situations in which manual handling of loads risks can take place and to learn about correct behaviours to adopt
- To describe the different typologies of protective equipment and to motivate to their use
- To reflect about communicative purposes of signposting in construction sites and about their relevance for safety
- To provide basic information about interference and sub-contracting risks.
Non Technical Skills discussed in class
Situational awareness, Communication, Decision making and Teamwork

Introduction
In this unit a detail description about the effects of alcohol consumption and of fatigue at work in construction sites will be presented.
Objective
The goals of this unit are:
- To describe the effects of fatigue at work
- To describe the effects of alcohol consumption during working hours
- To learn about the importance of a good fatigue management to work safely
- To motivate to the avoidance of alcohol consumption during working hours
- To enhance sensitivity about collective responsibilities relatively to coworkers’ safety when they appear tired or under alcohol effects.
Non Technical Skills discussed in class
Situational awareness, Communication, Decision making, Teamword, Fatigue and Stress control
